Government’s Freedom of Information campaign is in full swing and organizations and government departments will soon be receiving information packages explaining the proposed bill.
The packages contain brochures explaining the draft Freedom of Information bill as well as a PowerPoint presentation highlighting its different aspects, said a GIS press release.
‘The information packages were designed to introduce the population to the information they need to become part of the consultative process, and we hope it inspires meaningful discussions of the bill,’ said Government Information Services’ Chief Information Officer Pat Ebanks.
Ms Ebanks explained that the Government is seeking feedback from the population on what type of legislative instrument is most suited to the Cayman Islands.
The mailings will be followed by public meetings in all districts, and the awareness-raising initiative is expected to include schools, the release said.
‘A Freedom of Information Law will impact everyone in the Cayman Islands, and we hope that everyone will get involved in the consultative process,’ Ms Ebanks said.
Departments and organizations that haven’t received their packages by the end of this week should contact George Alleyne at 244-1772. Requests for more brochures or posters could also be directed to him.
A special website, www.foi.gov.ky, has additional information on the Freedom of Information bill, links and is an avenue by which the public may ask questions and offer feedback. Feedback may also be emailed at [email protected], or be mailed or delivered to the Cabinet Office, Government Administration Building.
