SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine – Businessman Gregory Mair will be the next Jamaica Labour Party candidate for the North East St. Catherine constituency.
This follows his victory in an internal poll yesterday to decide a replacement for Abe Dabdoub who resigned from the party in March, reports the Jamaica Gleaner.
Mr. Mair, a former member of the National Democratic Movement, defeated William Cytal, Leroy Dunbar and Sandra Nesbeth. He received 88 of the 140 votes cast.
The election was held in three locations within the constituency – the Riversdale Market, Mt. Industry and Guys Hill. Mr. Mair told The Gleaner that he feels privileged to be elected and that he will be doing all in his power to improve the lives of citizens in the constituency.
“I will be lobbying for roads to be fixed and piped water to run in all the pipes in the communities, as I intend to make a change,” he said. It was not a pleasing result for all the delegates however, and some made it clear.
“Mi a go switch, mi a vote fi power, and mi a go mek power come tek back dis, and anyway Dabdoub go we a go, because we nuh know how Mair come win yah,” remarked a disgruntled delegate.
