Child Month events planned for May

Plans for the ninth-annual Child Month observance during May are well under way. This year’s theme is Childhood – The Time of Your Life.

‘Let children be children,’ Child Month Coordinator Jasmine Powell said in a press release. ‘Let them enjoy this period in life when they should be carefree and innocent, uncomplicated by life and responsibilities.’

Events planned during the month include district family fun days; a community walk; a church service; media appearances; and a large Children’s Expo. As usual, a Child Month recognition award will be presented to a member of the community selected for their dedication in supporting or working with young people.

This annual event is organised by the Department of Children and Family Services, with a steering committee that includes representatives from a cross-section of the community.

Minister for Health and Human Services Anthony Eden encourages the community – from families, to churches, to businesses – to support the Child Month initiatives.

‘Having survived the changes of the past two years, our children deserve this celebration of their childhood,’ Mr. Eden said.

Involvement from the public and youth agencies is encouraged during Child Month. For more information, contact Child Month Coordinator Jasmine Powell at 946-0024.
