The event, hosted by students and parents of the school, was to thank leaders for their dedication in providing such positive reinforcement to youths.

Held on Seven Mile Public Beach, the day was one of fun and frolicking in the sun for adults and children.

Attendees enjoyed kayak rides which were provided by Jay Henderson of Surfside Aquatics, a bouncing castle, swimming and refreshments.

To show their appreciation, parents and students of Purple Dragon presented a number of people with awards for their support in the programme.

One award was presented to Dalton Watler, Director of Youth and Sports, for his long-standing community service support in an unofficial capacity.

Several students received recognition for volunteer support and dedication. These were Michael Brandon-Instructor, Cindy Moore-Instructor, Dianne Gordon-Asst. Instructor, Benjie Rivers-San, Jaryd Bodden-San, John Parsons-Team Member, Beco Pitta- Team Member and Roberto Clemente-Team Member.

One parent had high praise for those who do so much to help the youths in the program.

‘Not only do the leaders teach self-confidence and discipline, but they pick the students up from school and ensure that they are kept in a safe environment until parents are able to retrieve them.

‘This is such a great relief for parents, when we know our children are safe. It isn’t easy channeling this amount of energy, and we are very grateful for their patience and dedication.’
