Cayman team seeks support

The St. Ignatius U17 girls football team is raising funds to allow the team to participate in the Disney Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament VIII. The tournament will include teams from across the USA and around the world.

The competition will take place between 28 June to 3 July at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex and is sanctioned by FYSA (Florida Youth Soccer Association) and USSF (US Soccer Federation).

The St. Ignatius team has had a rewarding year. The girls only started training together in September 2005 and have, within this remarkably short period of time, earned a place in both finals of the U17 League,

‘We are very proud of this young team for having proven that it has the spirit, determination and sportsmanship to succeed,’ said Olsen Bush, the team’s coach. ‘The girls have shown discipline, dedication to training, and a promising level of enthusiasm for the game. In particular in a year when great emphasis has been placed on developing girls’ football in the Cayman Islands, we believe the tournament will be an excellent way to develop the players’ talents and to expose them to the very high standards of international competition.’

The team has set itself a goal of raising US$16,000 towards the expenses of the trip. The girls have all committed to assist in raising those funds, by helping with bake sales, ice cream sales, babysitting and taking part in sponsored activities, to name a few.

The team is also seeking sponsorship from any business or individual able to make a donation. For information on how you can support the team, contact Olsen Bush (916-5556).
