With another busy hurricane season forecast, a new edition of the National Hurricane Committee’s popular residents’ kit is now available to help Cayman prepare.
‘The Ivan experience has raised our sensitivity to the need for planning, well ahead of time, for each hurricane season,’ Mr. Donovan Ebanks, chairman of the National Hurricane Centre, said in a press release.
‘It’s time for all of us to get ready, and I am most grateful to Caribbean Utilities Company for its assistance in getting this information out to the public.’
The kit, produced by Government Information Services, is a how-to guide to weathering a storm, he said. It updates a wealth of useful hurricane preparedness tips, including advice for periods during and after a storm.
CUC helped the NHC to offset the cost of the kits. ‘We are pleased to assist the NHC with raising awareness of the need for hurricane preparedness in our community. The key to our survival is being prepared,’ said Richard Hew, CUC president and CEO.
Residents may pick up one kit per household when paying their bills at CUC’s West Shore Centre or North Sound Road locations. People who do not pay their bills at CUC may collect copies from GIS on this same one-per family basis, as supplies are limited.
‘Hurricane preparation is everybody’s business,’ Mr. Ebanks said, ‘and I urge every household, business and community group to do their part towards achieving the national goal of preparedness.’
