Rock music has arrived in Cayman.
dms Broadcasting unveiled the new 96.5FM Cayrock Friday and to celebrate its launch, the fledgling radio station hosted a party at the Hard Rock Café. The event featured local rock band Ratskyn, free appetizers and drinks and the opportunity to win great prizes, a press release said.
Cayrock began broadcasting rock music at 8am Friday providing Cayman’s diverse population with more choice for their listening pleasure.
Cayrock will play the best of rock, from the old classics to the most popular hits of today, including Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Green Day, Aerosmith, Collective Soul, Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Nickelback, The Rolling Stones, The Tragically Hip and U2.
The new radio station will treat Cayman’s residents to 10,000 songs in a row, playing all the best rock songs before introducing its morning show, on air personalities, programming and commercials in early August.
Steve Jones, dms Broadcasting’s Operations Manager, commented: ‘It’s about time. There is a real demand for rock music on the Island which hasn’t been catered to. I think listeners are going to be really excited about the new station, 10,000 songs in a row, and the upcoming shows and air personalities. We look forward to celebrating the launch with everyone at Hard Rock tonight.’
Additionally, 96.5 Cayrock is offering its listeners an opportunity to win $1,000. After all 10,000 songs have been played and the first commercial airs, the 96th person to call the station on 943-ROCK (7625) wins the cash prize.
