Radio station HOT 104.1 FM is showing its ongoing support for Cayman’s boxing champion Charles Whittaker by staging a HOT Boxer Fundraiser Cook-Out this Saturday, co-sponsored by Reflections.
The cook-out will be held in the Mirco Center Car Park, next to Reflections, starting at 12 noon. BBQ chicken, ribs, fish and side dishes will be on sale, said a press release from the radio station.
Attendees will have the chance to win great prizes, including a trip for two to Cayman Brac, courtesy of Reflections, as well as obtain a signature from boxing hero Charles Whittaker. HOT 104.1 FM’s Straight Talk host Sandra Catron will also be broadcasting live from the event as part of her show.
Proceeds from food sales and a donation box will go to support Charles Whittaker’s fight on 12 August at the Lion’s Centre.
Recently the station raised nearly CI$10,000 on 8 June when, during HOT 104.1 FM’s Straight Talk show, on-air personality Sandra Catron asked listeners to call in and donate money to support Charles Whittaker in his upcoming fight. Donations varied with several people pledging CI$1,000.
‘When Charles came on Straight Talk he mentioned he was in jeopardy of losing his belt and his World Boxing Council title because he has had no fights – he has to fight to move up the ranks – which was why I suggested an impromptu pledge to raise money for his fight’ commented Ms Catron.
‘I did not anticipate the response – some 90 people called in and the program was extended from two to three-and-half hours, because callers kept calling.
‘It turned out to be a very powerful and energetic evening. People were so positive and upbeat that we decided the fundraising cook-out was an excellent idea. It should be great fun for all involved.’
