Norma McField has been re-elected as president of the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens.
Ms McField thanked the membership for returning her to the post during the club’s annual Installation of Officers Luncheon, held 17 June at Sea Harvest Restaurant. Her 2006-07 year, began 1 July.
Ms McField is supported by 1st Vice President – Dawn Russell, 2nd Vice President – Carmin Godfrey, 3rd Vice President – Cheryl Bell MJF, Secretary – Denise Ashby, Treasurer – Nanalie Solomon-Cover, Tamer – Paulette Conolly-Bailey MJF, Tail Twister – Melrose Gooding and Directors – Judith Witter MJF, Dawn Hattle, Blanca Welds MJF, Natalie Webster and Kerry Nixon MJF (who has special responsibility for membership). Lion Lois Kellyman MJF officiated in the installation of these officers.
The President’s theme for 2006-07 is Enabling and Empowering – for a Stronger Community. Ms McField indicated her resolve to focus on the well-being of members, while in no way lessening our stellar service to the community.
Guest speaker Rev. Mary Graham, a strong supporter of the Club and former member, complemented Ms McField on her focus and stressed the importance of a healthy self in order to serve the community properly.
In accounting for her stewardship during 2005-06, Ms McField reported highlights, which included donation of furniture to hurricane victims and the Pines Retirement Home; mentoring and scholarship to the Young Parents’ Programme; the highly successful Senior Sweetheart celebration; amazing community support for the Club’s annual Dress Down Day and the Brenda Tibbetts-Lund Memorial 5K Walk/ Run – which both raise funds for breast cancer awareness and support; sponsorship of more than 600 mammogram vouchers; assistance with medical expenses and the purchase of equipment for persons with a variety of ailments; support of a number of schools and youth programs, among others.
Guests of Honour were Vice District Governor, Lion John Ebanks MJF and his partner-in-service, Sharon. A number of other service clubs turned out to show their support. Included in their numbers were President Elect of the Grand Cayman Lions Club, Albert Anderson, and President Elect of the Grand Cayman Leo Club, Daniel Reid.
The club was recognized for its hard work, dedication and service to the Cayman Islands community in 2005-06 with various Zone and Region awards.
The Lions Club of Tropical Gardens thanked all of its community partners, sponsors and volunteers for their tremendous support during the recently concluded administrative year and looked forward to their ongoing commitment and assistance.
