Comments insulting to Canadians

I would like to respond directly to Wendy Nixon’s letter to the editor that was published 2 October.

I realize that she was responding to a very negative letter written by a disgruntled Canadian. However, just as is the case with the person who wrote the original letter that prompted her response, she has no right to speak for anyone but herself.

To generalize Canadians as Ms Nixon did in her response is not fair. I do not agree at all with the comments Lisa Andrews made in her letter to the Editor. Ms Nixon, like everyone else, has every right to disagree or be offended by it but there is no need to attack all Canadians in your response to it.

For MS Nixon to say that Canadians ‘don’t breathe rare air’ I insulting. For her to state that Canadians ‘don’t know when to keep quiet’ is another insult. To state that ‘Canadians think that their opinion is the most important one’ is another outrageous and unacceptable comment. To tell Canadians to ‘wake up and grow up’ is something you yourself should do Ms Nixon before sharing your opinions in the local paper.

What Ms Nixon should have done was to respond directly to the original writer and not refer to Canadians as a whole. Like the letter she was responding to, her wording and comments were insensitive and offensive.

Next time Ms Nixon, reply on your own behalf and direct your comments in the appropriate direction and not to a nationality as a whole.
