Be Active promotes Go Foods

Eat Smart, a health initiative sponsored by Generali Worldwide and Progressive Distributors, comes to Cayman grocery stores 28 October with help from co-sponsors OceanSpray, Tropicana, LeBleu Water, Naturevalley, Quaker and Cayman Insurance Centre.

Eat Smart is part of the Generali Be Active & Eat Smart programme for kids and families, encouraging exercise and healthy eating choices. To support the Eat Smart message – encouraging better nutrition and balanced eating – Progressive will display signage and information about the healthiest foods, labeled Go foods, in Foster’s and Kirk’s supermarkets this fall, states a press release.

On Saturday this nutrition awareness campaign will kick off with a storewide scavenger hunt in Foster’s Food Fair at the Strand from 10am-12pm.

Maureen Cubbon, Marketing supervisor at Progressive Distributors, commented, ‘Kids will compete to find healthy foods and answer questions about their nutritional content. After hunting the answers down throughout the store during the scavenger hunt, they can enter their completed forms into a drawing to win a bicycle, skateboard and other sports equipment. We hope this gets kids and families thinking about the kinds of foods they select while shopping, encouraging people to read labels to better understand what they’re eating, and shop to create a more balanced diet.’

Jennifer Williams, who continues her work as Generali’s Be Active programme coordinator, commented, ‘It’s difficult for all of us to decide how to eat, what to eat, how much to eat. We’re given conflicting information and sometimes so much detail that we don’t know where to begin. The simple Go Foods messaging of this campaign reminds us about the basics of eating well and directs us to the best foods to keep us healthy – fruits, vegetables, milk, water and proteins. The goal is to help educate children to help create healthy behaviours over a lifetime, but we all need this basic information, a basic reminder about how to create a truly balanced diet.’

This campaign has been made possible through a partnership between Generali Worldwide Health Insurance, Cayman Insurance Centre and Progressive Distributors.

‘I think it’s a great campaign and the time is right to share this kind of information with the community,’ said Ms Cubbon. ‘When Generali and CIC approached us, we worked with them to identify vendors whose products best reflect healthy choices, then talked about ways to introduce the initiative in our stores. With companies like OceanSpray, Tropicana, Naturevalley, LeBleu and Quaker backing this project, we know we can gain the kind of awareness we need to make an impact on consumer behaviour for the better. This is something Progressive Distributors is interested in as a longtime business partner with the Cayman community. Whatever we can do to improve the health of the community is good for all of us – the public, private business and the government sector.’
