On learning of the tragic plane crash of Mr. Lidle, and his flight instructor, I was most saddened by the event.
What is more worrying is the false hype by the news media in the comparing of this accident with a terrorist attack, fuelling what could amount to unjustified restrictions on general aviation.
I am a general aviation pilot from The Island of Bermuda. I hold a US private pilot certificate, since 1998. I make every effort to abide by the FAA regulations to the letter. Flying is a passion of mine and your country has made me most welcome. There was a tragic accident a couple of years ago on Coney Island beach when a light plane crashed on the beach killing all aboard, what about the biz jet that ploughed into a building after failing to take off at Tetoborough, the same airport of Lidle`s departure. There was no out cry by the media as to the so called weakness of the defence system. This was and like many a very tragic accident, and we GA pilots should not be targeted by knee jerk reaction.
I find it most disturbing that the airport security companies that are directly responsible for the events of 9/11 walked scott free.
