Swim Association Set to Start Pirates’ Week

A Pirates’ Week tradition continues this Saturday, November 11th, as the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association is holding the 26th Annual Pirates’ Week 5k Sea Swim at 8:00am at the Courtyard Marriott beach, sponsored by Texaco. Registration for the race will be held on the beach prior to the swim from 7:00-7:45am. The course will consist of a 5k loop starting from the Courtyard Marriott beach, with a turnaround buoy in the vicinity of the Hyatt Hotel. Given the long-distance of the race, there will be a 2 1/2 hr time limit for finishing, and participants under 12 require explicit permission from their parent and swim coach to take part in the race.

This year, a 10k swim has been added to the Pirates’ Week event, to challenge Cayman’s hardier swimmers. The 10k event will start at the same time as the 5k race, with the 10k swimmers completing two 5k loops instead of one. A 5 hr time limit will be imposed on this long-distance event. Individuals who wish to take part in the 10k event are asked to inform the CIASA Open Water Committee of their intention to participate at [email protected].

The top four finishers in each of 26th Texaco Pirates’ Week 5k and 10k Sea Swims will be awarded plaques provided by the Pirates’ Week Organizing Committee, and the top three male and female finishers in all age groups will be awarded trophies. All participants will be provided a Texaco swim cap to be worn during the race upon registration, as well as T-shirts and refreshments after the race, provided by Gatorade and Le Bleu. Each swimmer who completes the race will be eligible for draw prizes. Registration forms may be downloaded from www.caymanswimming.com.
