The century’s old tradition marks the completion of the highest point of the structure.

After the ceremony, McAlpine’s workers enjoyed refreshments in the building to celebrate their accomplishment so far.

During the ceremony, Butterfield Bank’s Managing Director Conor O’Dea joined McAlpine’s Works Manager Jeff Glendinning and Butterfield’s long-time Facilities Manager Turney Rankine in pouring the last block on the roof of the building.

Mr. Glendinning then nailed an evergreen bough to a timber, which is traditionally done to bring the building good luck.

The seven-storey building is scheduled for completion in July 2007.

When complete, 200 of Butterfield Bank’s 350 employees will work in the building, Mr. O’Dea said, adding that the staff members are very much looking forward to moving in.
