In A-league co-ed Slo-pitch on Monday evening defending champions Canadian Bacon (CB) finally got back to their winning ways, beating the Buccaneers 17-7.
CB scored 5 runs in the 1st and 2nd innings while holding the Buc’s to one run. In the third through fifth innings the teams essentially traded runs before invoking the mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth inning. There were several high notes for CB including Ross Jensen’s towering home run over the fence in straight away center field, the first of his career, in Cayman, on the big field. CB’s 3 ladies were stars at the plate and on defense excluding a couple of rare errors by Jenni, the ‘Gold Glover’ at 2nd base. In the top of the fourth, it is worth mentioning, the Bucs were mounting a come back and with two runners on and nobody out, the batter hit a hard grounder to the left of the in field, but shortstop Tyson Bradley, tracked it down and threw out the runner at third. The next batter tested TB again and he was equal to the task stepping on second and throwing a rocket to first to record the double play. After starting the year one win and five losses co-captains Currie and Huys were happy to see the team respond to adversity and show it still has the skill to compete. Huys was quoted as saying ‘Look out TeleCayman, you are on the track and here comes the train – Wooooo Wooooooo!!!!!’. With new team jersey’s and a renewed vigor CB looks forward to the next challenge.
