Take a Kid Fishing is one of Rotary Central’s signature community events. On 3 June, children between the ages of six and 11 were treated to a catch-and-release fishing trip on two boats supervised by Rotarians, said a press release from the service club.

The boats departed from the Safe Haven docks on Sunday morning, with Bodden Shipping once again donating two large tenders for the special trip.

More than 35 members of Rotary Central are involved in organising the fun day outing, a long-standing event that has been held for nearly 20 years.

Rotary Central, which is involved in a wide range of community projects aimed at the youth and elderly, is proud of the signature event especially because it targets a younger age group, the release said.

‘This year’s event was a lot of fun for the kids,’ beamed Len Layman, a past President of Rotary Central who organises the event.

‘Despite some earlier concerns that the trip may have to be cancelled due to possible bad weather, we ended up having a great time today fishing with the kids. It is always nice to put some smiles on the faces of the younger ones,’ he added.

He thanked Rotary Central members who were involved in all aspects of the trip from preparing lines to supervision on the boats.
