Cayman’s Mothersill busy

Cydonie Mothersill may be a sprint specialist, but she is certainly putting in quite a few miles off the track these days.

Last Friday in Lille, France, Cydonie came from behind to win the women’s 200 meter dash over world event leader Kim Gaevert of Belgium in a time of 23.17 seconds. LaVerne Jones of the U.S.V.I. placed third.

Wasting little time, Cydonie hopped over to Poland for another half-lapper competition on Sunday.Although she bettered her Friday time with a 22.73 effort, that only gained her third place behind Stephanie Durst of the United States and Jones.Durst took the double in 11.21 and 22.51.

This Friday Cydonie will line up for the 100 meters in Oslo, Norway, at the Bislett Games, the opening meet in the Golden League series.

Carlos Morgan of Middle Tennessee State University placed 23rd in the men’s long jump at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, California last Thursday with a measurement of 7.15 meters (23’5 1/4″)

At the New York State High School Championships this past weekend, Sean Troop of South Shore High School in Brooklyn placed third in the boys Division I 200 meter dash with a time of 21.93 seconds. Unfortunately, in the Championship Division later, he was charged with a false start.
With Sean running the anchor leg, South Shore won the 4×100 Division I title in 41.95, and clocked 41.86 for victory in the Championship Division.
