Medlab, on Smith Road, have fully digitised their mammography and X-ray equipment. They say the move that will save time and improve diagnostic capabilities.
Dr. Victor Look Loy, who has overseen the upgrade, said the switch to digital would allow doctors to view their patient’s X-ray and mammograms instantly, from any location in the world.
Previously, X-ray and mammography files had to be developed and then couriered, a time consuming process, particularly when the patient’s doctor is based abroad.
‘With this new upgrade, we can have a specialist in the US download an X-ray or mammogram, analyse it and send a report back practically immediately,’ Dr. Look Loy said.
The new technology allows doctors to zoom in or change settings such as contrast, so they can get a better view of a particular part of an X-ray or mammogram.
‘This is hugely helpful, not just in the hard to detect cases. It gives you a chance to see things you would not see on film. It gives you a greater power to diagnose.’
Medlab’s move to digital comes after Christie Tomlinson Memorial Hospital spent the past two months digitising their radiology department.
Radiologists at CTMH said the move to digital would allow them to seek the assistance of radiology specialist in Germany for problematic or obscure diagnoses.
