Rotary joins National Gallery

Rotary Sunrise members have always admired and enjoyed the exhibitions and activities organised by the National Gallery and following discussions with Nancy Barnard, the Gallery director, they have been persuaded to become corporate members.

‘We are delighted,’ said President Hendrik van Genderen. ‘We have worked with the Gallery before and we are anxious to learn and participate to a greater extent.’

Sunrise has provided sponsorship to the National Gallery for their internship programme and Eldon Parchmon a three year summer intern at the Gallery has benefited from this support.

The Gallery has a very full programme of events covering artistic endeavours in many fields with a strong educational element and a number of experts who can describe the finer points of the various disciplines. Cayman is a photographic paradise and new techniques are necessary to see and make great pictures. Members will enjoy learning and delving into the visual arts and artistic culture in many forms.

The Gallery also screens and explains regular cine film performances.

The National Gallery is situated in Harbour Place but they are well advanced in the plans to build a new Gallery on land on the Harquail bypass donated by Mrs Helen Harquail O.B.E. They hope to open their doors in 2008. Both Corporate and individual membership is open and the Gallery welcomes new members, please call 945 8111 for details.
