Residents will soon be able to have their vehicles inspected at one of several certified private garages.
Expected to kick off in October, the programme will allow residents to choose from a list of private garages certified by the Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing, where they’d like to have their inspections done, said a GIS press release.
The DVDL will be accepting applications for its Private Garage Inspection Programme this September.
Private garages must apply in writing to the department and undergo an inspection. Garages will be certified, according to equipment and staffing requirements, and given a facility class definition, which spans from A to C.
The department will be the only ‘Class A’ facility certified to inspect all vehicles including heavy equipment. Those with a Class B certification can inspect new and used cars and light trucks (under two tons) for private use. A Class C designation can inspect new cars and light trucks (under two tons) for private use.
Following classification, garages will undergo a mandatory vehicle inspection training course.
Interested garage operators are invited to contact the Assistant Manager Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing Stephen Quinland at 949-8344 or Supervisor of Vehicle Inspections Roy Bush at 945-8355 for further information regarding applications and certification.
