Voices for Hospice open mike contest

An Open Mike competition, with a prize pool of $10,000, is planned for Saturday, 6 October, as part of the international event Voices for Hospice, said a press release.

Cayman Hospice Care have partnered with dms subsidiaries BrightIdeas Marketing Ltd. and dms Broadcasting Ltd. to host the all-day community event which will take place at Coconut Joe’s.

The event will kick off at 10am and feature a charity carwash from 10am to 2pm, a musical afternoon with entertainment by local performers from 2pm and an open mike show from 4pm to 6pm. From 6pm to 9pm, there will be a barbeque, raffle and fundraising auction, as well as the Open Mike winner’s performance.

The Open Mike show themed ‘Across the Ages’ aims to encourage both young and old to participate and demonstrate their musical, poetic, or comedic talents.

Entrants are advised to register now at the dms Broadcasting studios located in the Mirco Centre.

‘Open Mike’ is open to both amateur and professional performers, and competitors will have their chance to battle it out throughout the afternoon. The winner/s will perform at 7.30pm.

‘Voices for Hospices 2007’ is part of ‘World Hospice & Palliative Care Day’ – a world-wide campaign described as a ‘Mexican Wave’ of simultaneous concerts round the globe, on the same day, once every two years. Involving up to a million people each time, the fundraising concerts increase awareness and encourage new volunteers for each local unit involved.

Cayman HospiceCare is a non-profit organization that provides Specialist Palliative Nursing care, free of charge, to any person living with terminal illness in the Cayman Islands.
