Please allow me space to voice a great concern.
As a resident of Northward and a mother of two children, year after year we have asked for assistance from the RCIP in controlling the amount of traffic that is coming through Northward every single morning when the schools are in session.
We are kindly asking again for some form of RCIP patrol in the mornings from 7am to 8am to enforce the traffic laws.
Residents that live beyond the Northward Road heading to town have turned Northward into a shortcut in the mornings.
This creates a problem for the drivers on the main road and an even worse problem for the residents on these roads, as we are now forced to sit in traffic in our own residential area waiting for someone to let us out of our own front yards.
It’s something that has become a nuisance to the residents, as the outside traffic does not respect the ‘No Speeding’ and ‘Children at Play’ signs.
As of 3 September we are still waiting to see some form of traffic patrol.
A call to the RCIPS resulted in an answer that they are short staffed.
A call to RCIPS that same day also resulted in the answer that the residents know the rules of the road and it shouldn’t be happening.
However; the majority of residents clearly don’t know the rules of the road and need reminding.
Since 3 September a total of 75 cars enter the Northward Road every weekday morning to make a short cut and we have logged every single plate number to submit to the RCIPS.
The car drivers include every type of individual imaginable including family members of our Islands’ leader; so obviously the Law is not enforced.
The message we should be sending to the young people is to respect the RCIPS and rules of the road.
On any given morning you’ll see parents breaking the rules of the road by entering Northward and they have kids in their cars.
I hope the RCIPS can assist us in this area real soon.
