A dash of competition and a sprinkle of generosity were the magic ingredients in PricewaterhouseCoopers Christmas donation – $2,200 to benefit the 10 children living at the National Council of Voluntary Organisation’s foster home.
‘We’re thankful to PwC for their staff competition and the resulting donation,’ says NCVO Chief Executive Officer Janice Wilson. ‘They’ve raised enough money to allow our foster kids to spend their Christmas morning tearing open gifts. It’s very exciting!’
Each child received $100 worth of gifts from the PwC donation. The remaining funds were used to buy much-needed equipment for Miss Nadine’s Pre-School and the Jack & Jill Nursery and help fund the monthly NCVO Citizenship Award.
Every Christmas, the staff and management of PwC participate in a fundraising competition where every dollar raised is matched by the firm and donated to a local charity.
‘It’s fun and a good way to instantly double the funds,’ explains Courtney Phipps from PwC. ‘Each year we all divide into teams and compete to see who can raise the most money in a given period of time, the firm then matches every dollar we manage to raise. It’s surprising how motivating a little friendly competition can be!
‘At the end of the day, it’s not just about how much money we can raise’, Phipps continues. ‘It’s about that extra bit of joy and magic that these ten kids will hopefully get when they open up their gifts this Christmas.’
