We refer to the news media article on the recent appointment of a Commissioner of Enquiry.
The Commission of Enquiry Law is one of the oldest laws of the Cayman Islands.
It has never been used during our 24 years in government and the legislature and we do not know of any previous time when it was used.
This type of commission is high profile and should be used only sparingly as it may have a serious effect on the country and can be very expensive.
There have been other more serious matters in the past where a lower profile enquiry was used effectively.
It is unfortunate that other serious matters involving the use of the public’s money have not been subject to such serious enquiry.
