The Garden Club of Grand Cayman presented its annual flower show, 50 Years Growing Together at the South Sound Dart Family Park Saturday.
Enthusiasts, novices and veterans got a chance to show off their best horticultural pieces. This year the Horticulture Division comprised only of cut specimens from ornamental flowering trees, flowering plants, foliage plants, ornamental shrubs and flowering vines. Club calendar miniature design collection showed the patience and good eyesight of artists in creating such delicate pieces of work.
Selma Silva’s hat creation took overall winner in this division. Fay Black won first place in Butler Garden and Christina Ferreia took first place with her Pines Retirement Home birthday party creation. In the theme Celebrate, Sheila McKenzie was the overall winner. Horticulture overall winner was Berna Cummings with her cleodendrum minabassae and Jamie Williams’ mangrove shoots won the youth exhibit. In addition to arrangements Ritz-Carlton’s Frank Lanning’s contributed a floral design to the club’s 50th flower show. Dora Williams’ oil on canvas, used for the poster was up for grabs during the silent auction.
