MacKay and Roffey end collegiate swimming careers

Two of Cayman’s prominent local swimmers recently ended their college swim careers.

This week Andrew Mackay and Heather Roffey attended their final collegiate meet. They swam at the Big East and SEC NCAA Collegiate Championships respectively. The meets started on Wednesday 19 February and were expected to last through the weekend.

Mackay is a senior at the University of Notre Dame while Roffey is a senior at the University of South Carolina. Both are majoring in Accounting and will graduate this year.

Mackay hopes to come back to Cayman after graduation and continue his involvement with Cayman swimming. He hopes to work with his parents, Peter and Sara, as part of the Cayman Islands Swimming Association.

Meanwhile, Roffey is thinking of staying on at the school and getting her Master’s. She is considering getting into the tourism trade as she will have a minor in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management.

Both were cheered on by their colleagues and friends. Among them was Shaune Fraser.

Fraser was swimming at the SEC Championships, representing the University of Florida. Fraser is a sophomore aiming for a business degree and is set to graduate about 2010. Fraser will most likely stay in Florida after graduation to train for the 2012 Olympics in London.
