Stafford upsets

Squash’s first week of the National Championships concluded last Friday and it is continuing this week. Many matches are close and exciting.

The Massive National Squash Championships at the South Sound Squash Club has matches every night this week.

The Men’s A semi finals will be played at 6.15 tonight with club coach Dean Watson (No.1 seed) taking on Jake Kelly (No.4). In the other semi, Cameron Stafford (No.6), who comprehensively beat No.3 seed Ken Moore, takes on Gabe Rabess (No.2). There have been no upsets in the Ladies A division where No.1 seed Courtney Stafford takes on Delia Slater (No.4). Melissa Evans (No.3) played Marion Goodall (No.2 seed) last night.

In the Men’s B division final Craig Fulton takes on Trevor Kidd . In the Ladies B final Maylin Philips plays Drew Dhanraj .

The Super Vets division finished at the weekend with Ian Patrick (No.1) defeating Jay Schutte (No.2) 3-0 in an extremely competitive final. Patrick (No.2) has also made it to the final of the Vets tournament (over 40s) where he will come up against No.1 seed Nick Buckley.

The doubles competition has provided a lot of fun for all concerned and the final was a ‘battle of the sexes’ with Merta Day and Melissa Evans competing against Jay Schutte and David Sagison. On this occasion the men were too strong with Jay and David running out comfortable 3-0 winners

All spectators are welcome. The finals night will be on Friday. Presentations will follow the Men’s A final. The Cayman Islands National Squash Association is grateful to Massive Equipment Rentals and Sales Ltd who are sponsoring the tournament again this year.
