Cayfest activities continued last Saturday night with Dance Vibes.
The two-hour dance extravaganza included local dance groups from across the islands, performing on the Harquail Stage.
Agape Church Dancers kicked off the event, which was staged by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation.
While the show deviated from the original programme due to technical difficulties, it did not blight the event, and judging by audience reaction it would seem the show was a success, as the crowd enthusiastically cheered on the dancers.
The Cayman Tassa Dancers put on an energetic piece, while Jenny Maneepura danced a finely executed traditional dance from Thailand donned in full regalia.
Belly dancer Sorya was up next with Desert Rose, which was followed by dancers from Ms. Jackie’s School of Dance performing Hit the Road Jack. Dressed in cute polka dot dresses and crisp white gloves, the tap dancers put on an energetic piece.
Following a brief intermission, Sorya once again took to the stage for the opening of the second act.
Agape Church Dancers followed. Technical difficulties led to the wrong music being played, however it was quickly rectified and the show got under way.
Next up was a performance by the UCCI Dancers. Choreographed by Kirk Rowe, the five dancers, wearing jeans and hoodies, danced across the stage to a variety of dancehall hits, garnering a hearty applause from the audience.
Dance Unlimited followed with a freestyle piece to Madonna’s popular hit The Power of Goodbye. The two dancers put on an impressive show, with a variety of carefully executed lifts and spins, garnering arguably one of the largest applause of the night.
Belly dancer Sorya took to the stage again, donning a blue sequined outfit for her final piece, which was followed by a further piece – Caribbean Fusion – by Dance Unlimited.
The Fresh Boyz brought a change in tempo. Wearing silver jackets and dark sunglasses the dance piece combined fusion of dancehall, hip-hop and break dancing which was a hit with audience members.
Dancers from KRI dance school brought the show to a close.
