CF travels to World Cultural Summit

Cayman National Cultural Foundation Chairman Martyn Bould, recently represented the Cayman Islands at a world cultural summit at the invitation of the International Federation of Arts Councils and Cultural Agencies.

The three day summit was held in Adelaide, Australia where IFACCA members shared ideas and experiences on ‘Support for the Major Performing Arts Organisations’.

At the summit, representatives and invited speakers debated best funding practices for both State and philanthropic funding sources.

The review also focused on how such indicators were changing due to pressures created by technological advances and lifestyle changes.

Mr. Bould says, ‘The Adelaide Summit provided an invaluable networking exchange between the world’s leaders in cultural funding and management.’ Delegates represented a broad range of countries with many different models for funding and evaluation. Among the countries represented were China, Philippines, England, Ireland, Scotland, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Chile, Finland, New Zealand and South Korea. The summit took place at the same time as the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Adelaide Bank Performing Arts Festival.

IFACCA was established in 2000 to facilitate resource and knowledge exchange between the world’s cultural organisations. It currently has 60 member countries and 50 affiliate members.

This was the third global IFACCA event at which CNCF was represented, the previous events being the inaugural Ottawa World Summit in 2000 and the World Summit in Gateshead, England in 2006. The next World Summit is scheduled for Johannesburg in September 2009.
