During Earth Week, the Lobster Pot Dive Center on North Church Street did its part to help the environment by holding a reef clean-up day.
The dive center consists of three individual dive companies: Deep Blue Divers, Wall to Wall Diving and Off the Wall Divers.
The Dive Center donated all monies from tank and gear rentals during Earth Week to the National Trust for the Cayman Islands.
Miss Cayman Rebecca Parchment eagerly joined in on the reef clean-up on Saturday. After the divers collected eight bags filled with garbage – ranging from plastic bottles, cans and tins to PVC piping – Miss Parchment handed over several prizes to lucky volunteers. Prizes included dinner at Lobster Pot restaurant and several gifts from the dive operators. The proceeds from the raffle also were donated to the National Trust.
‘The Trust is extremely grateful to the Lobster Pot Dive Center for their altruistic contribution to us,’ said Frank Roulstone, general manager of the Trust. ‘We would certainly encourage other businesses to demonstrate the same generosity by giving local charitable organisations the proceeds of even one day’s business.’
