In its 10th year, the region’s premiere food awards programme celebrates culinary excellence and recognised the Hamatys for introducing the Tortuga Rum Cake and its worldwide success.

The ceremony and presentation were held 2 June in Kingston on the grounds of Vale Royal, the residency of the prime minister.

“We welcome this honour and recognition for the success of our Tortuga rum cakes,” says Robert Hamaty, who was born in Jamaica and serves as the Jamaica Honorary Consul for the Cayman Islands. “It is Carlene’s family recipe that launched our rum cake business. Who would have imagined some twenty years later that we would be shipping rum cakes to 70 countries?”
