Today’s Editorial for June 18: Award recipients deserving

Kudos to those who received Member of the British Empire and Cayman Islands Certificate and Badge of Honour this past weekend.

Each person who received the honour deserved it.

We appreciate those who nominated these men and women.

They saw what we see daily in each of these fine people, but the nominators actually took the steps to make sure that we, as a country, recognise the contributions the awardees make to our country and community.

Pastor Winston Rose and Mr. Richard Smith are both very worthy of the Member of the Order of the British Empire.

Both are Godly, humble men that believe in family values.

They both also know the value of good leadership and how to motivate others to help them succeed.

Young people would do good to emulate either man.

The men and women who were picked to receive the Certificate and Badge of Honour also come from good stock and lead by example.

Frankly we were surprised that some of those chosen were just now getting the honour.

Mrs. Wanda Tatum has been the cheerleader for Cayman Brac for as long as we can remember. She was long overdue for this honour.

And Andy Martin has been taking the Cayman Islands to the world for years as the Cayman Cowboy through his songs and music.

Everyone who received the honours is deserving.

Each of them possesses something that we all need – integrity and honesty.

That’s what has made them successes in life and work.

When you see Mr. Rose, Mr. Smith, Mr. Martin, Mrs. Tatum or the other recipients – Mrs. Patricia Bradley, Mr. Brian Uzzell and Dr. Francis McIntyre, congratulate them and let them know how proud our country is of them.

To those who received the awards, thank you for what you do day in and day out. Our country is better off because of you.
