McLean’s champ at last

The annual Jet Around Cayman was another thriller. And the winner is only a young man but he deserves props for persistence.

Jordan McLean was the jubilant jet skier in the annual competition on Monday. It started at Public Beach and whizzed around Grand Cayman at an amazing rate.

McLean, 19, said: ‘It was really tough. This was my fifth time and my first win. I did five months training for this, mostly in the gym, building up my main body parts, particularly the triceps, back and legs. The competition was tight but after a while I started doing my thing.

‘Cory was always up close and when I came into South Sound he was coming in. He’s my riding partner and I’m really pleased for him, that was his first attempt.

‘I didn’t break the course record but enjoyed it and will probably do it again next year. When I came back I started riding for a month around the island to build up my legs.’
