The Crisis Centre is in need of household linens and clothing for the women and children who seek refuge there.
Members of the Lean on me Committee are collecting items for the centre Saturday at Smith Cove, also known as Smith Barcadere, on South Church Street.
They will be on site from 11am until 2pm, said chairman Derri Lee. Refreshments will be on sale at the beach.
Donated items need not be new, but they should be clean, with no tears, holes or stains.
The needed items include towels, wash cloths, pillows, pillow cases, sheets and mattress covers for twin-size beds only, blankets, comforters, rugs and mats.
Clothing may be for any age group and size.
On behalf of the clients and staff of the Crisis Centre, Executive Director Anne Hodge thanked the Lean on Me Committee for undertaking the linen drive. ‘We appreciate what they’re doing for us,’ she said.
The Crisis Centre is a safe-house for women and children who are victims of domestic abuse. The centre also offers counselling services, temporary housing and whatever protection it can from the abusers.
