Cayman Islands-based business conglomerate, dms Organization Ltd. has donated $1,000 KYD to the Cayman Islands Seafarer’s Association in support of their efforts to raise funds by publishing a calendar for 2009.
The sponsorship will go towards the second annual calendar launched by CISA in a fund-raising endeavor to benefit the various causes they support including seafarer’s funeral funds, medical service contributions, assisting seafarers in need, and the maintenance of their association headquarters.
The theme for this year’s calendar will feature and highlight the Turtle Fishing Treaty signed, on behalf of the Cayman Islands, between the United Kingdom and Nicaragua in 1916. The Treaty was introduced to allow Caymanians fishing rights in and around the coastline of Nicaragua.
The CISA was formed in 1989 and was formally registered as a non-profit organization in 1994, dedicated to their fundraising efforts.
‘My father was a seaman and it fills me with pride to support these courageous men to whom all Caymanians owe a tremendous debt of gratitude,’ commented Don Seymour, president of dms Organization. ‘Caymanian seafarers made an enormous contribution to our country and were exceptional ambassadors of the Caymanian work ethic and ingenuity internationally. These men have established a legacy of which we can all be proud.’
‘Our main aspiration for the calendar is to continue to raise awareness and keep seafarer’s heritage alive. The images will be in both black and white, representing the past, and colour representing the future. CISA would like to thank dms and Mr. Seymour for his generous contribution,’ commented CISA Fundraising President Tim Solomon.’
