Wilson really is Jamaica’s answer to Pele

One of Jamaica’s most gifted footballers will be in action this weekend in the celebrity match.

Kevin ‘Pele’ Wilson Arnett Garden’s top striker, will be in Cayman for the Cayman vs The World match.

It’s at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex on Sunday at 7:00pm.

Wilson had a sensational debut for the Reggae Boyz at 19, scoring a goal against Norway.

He started to create a stir in the football arena in 1995 when he ignited the Manning Cup and led what many people consider the greatest schoolboy football team to Manning, Walker Cup and Olivier Shield victories for the coveted treble.

Wilson played his game at the time like nobody had ever seen football at schoolboy level since the celebrated Walter Boyd. The skill and class shown by Wilson made him a cut above the rest earning him a place on the national team.

Wilson drifted out of favour from the national team but his ability to play the game has not been erased from the minds of football enthusiasts in Jamaica and around the world as he has played overseas and for Arnett Gardens in Jamaica’s National Premier League competition.

His performance at the National Premier League level for Arnett has helped the team to win numerous titles holding the fans together in jubilation at every game.

Wilson’s performance is of high esteem as he is very skilful with movements off the ball deceptive and impressive. His technical ability is also something people don’t pay attention to but it is awesome. He is blessed with exceptional control and poise.

Wilson is also two-footed and is so versatile he has played in every outfield position. Known for his quiet personality, he is far from shy to take on defenders and will certainly do a lot for the Caymanian team.
