Caribbean Wellness Day was observed for the first time this September and will be acknowledged annually every second Saturday in September.
The creation of Caribbean Wellness Day resulted from a meeting of the Caribbean Community Heads of Government on 15 September 2007 to design a plan of action to stop the epidemic of chronic Non-Communicable Diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart disease, obesity and cancer.
The aim of the occasion was to promote healthy living and encourage residents to develop good health practices. Participants were able to have their body-mass index, blood sugar and blood pressure tested.
The theme of the day was Love That Body.
