Regional agency by 2010

CARICOM Ministers of Health have taken another step toward achieving the Caribbean Public Health Agency by 2010, having endorsed a plan of action for the transition of the regional health institutions into one regional body.

The endorsement was made at the annual Caucus of the Ministers of Health held in Washington DC, on the eve of the Pan American Health Organisation Directing Council which began there on Tuesday.

The Meeting of Health Ministers approved the general functions and governance structure of the Agency as proposed by the CARPHA Steering Committee presided over the Guyana’s Minister of Health, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy.

The Ministers mandated the Programme Management Group to finalize the structure and costing in time for the CARICOM Heads of Government in March, 2009.
