For the second straight year the Cayman Islands Tennis Club is proud to have been the main sponsors able to send the Under-13 team to an overseas tennis tournament in the Caribbean.
This year the International Tennis Federation Under 13 Development Championships were held in Antigua, where Marc Reid and Edward Bodden (Jr) gained invaluable experience representing their country.
The Cayman Islands Tennis Club was able to provide substantial financial backing by using the Paul Howard Memorial Fund.
Paul Howard was the club’s top junior player during the late 90’s before his sudden death in February of 2001, aged 13.
Tennis Federation president Jeremy Superfine said: ‘Paul’s dedication to tennis and his fantastic sportsmanship and humility is what made him such a great young man. The Cayman Islands Tennis Club will always be pleased by having their current junior tennis players follow Paul’s sportsmanship and dedication to the game of tennis and it is a great pleasure in helping the juniors of the club along the way in getting experience and exposure with events like this.’
The federation was presented with a cheque of $1,000 from Nick Hewitt, the president of the tennis club who was representing the Paul Howard Memorial Fund. At the cheque hand over were coaches Rob Seward and Adam Bayley and Cassandra Pedersen, the tennis federation executive.
