I have lived in Grand Cayman for four years and have recently left for what I hope will only be a short trip. I am currently residing in London, UK and the differences between the two places are vast.
I was recently travelling on the London Underground and one of the advertising boards said ‘A rape occurs every single day, fortunately we are contactable 24 hours a day’ as if accepting that this behaviour and total disregard for another persons life is somehow the norm. This really stuck with me due to the recent events in Grand Cayman.
The Cayman Islands is a remarkable place with regard to how safe and happy people are to enjoy life and get the most out of it.
Trying to explain to some of my friends here how shocking an event this was for the most part just fell on deaf ears due to it being a day to day occurrence over here.
I hope that this will be dealt with severely as it needs to be to help safeguard the values and attitude toward life that Caymanians and expats alike that call Cayman their home both share.
