Local band Bona Fide gave a free lunch time performance at the John Gray High school for students who may have dreams of one day starting their own musical groups.
This was the first of Cayman Music and Entertainment Association ‘Youth in Music Task Force’ initiative to encourage talented young people to explore the prospects of a future in the local music scene, be it as live performers, writers, producers or promoters of local music.
Bona Fide, which consists of Isadora Farrao and Rennard Powell, gave the students a brief overview of how they became interested in music and where they were today and then proceeded to perform a number of songs which the students were familiar with. Soon everyone was singing along, clicking their fingers and volunteering to participate.
Tom Robertson, principal at John Gray, said of the performance, ‘The response was overwhelmingly positive and we were impressed not only with Bona Fide’s professionalism, but also by the way they managed to make this an interactive session which caught the imagination of our students.’
The CMEA encourages other local musicians to join in these events where they can showcase their talents.
