Recently, the Employee Assistance Programme ran two workshops titled ‘Tis the Season to go Broke for employees of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
Recognising that the holiday season is a stressful time of year financially, the workshop encourages participants to consider their spending habits and plan ahead.
‘We all feel the pinch leading up to Christmas, and it is so easy to go over budget, only to regret it later,’ said Emma Roberts, one of the trainers and counsellors with the EAP.
‘Enjoying yourself at Christmas does not have to mean you leave yourself and your family in debt for the rest of your year; a bit of planning, such as using a holiday spending worksheet and budgeting can help ease the burden,’ she said.
