The Cayman Islands Humane Society will host its annual fundraising gala on Saturday, 14 March at the Marriott beach resort.
Vice-President of the Society, Pamela Hart, said that the gala is ‘our largest fundraising effort for the year.’
The event will include a champagne reception, starting at 7pm, and will be followed by a three-course meal with wine, a live and silent auction and some presentations to appreciated sponsors of the charity.
‘The main sponsors are recognised and certificates of appreciation are handed out,’ said Ms Hart. ‘We have been blessed with very generous sponsors that underwrite the event every year.’
Taking at least six months to plan, the event requires hard work, but pays off in the end.
‘Planning is kicked into higher gear after the New Year when we begin collecting our auction items and approaching our sponsors,’ explained Ms Hart. ‘So far we have not been disappointed. We always get a capacity crowd for this event as people really want to support the cause.’
The money raised from the gala will go towards several special projects that the Cayman Islands Humane Society has taken on this year, many of which are focused on expanding and improving the current facility.
‘We have been doing shelter renovations and have created a new cat room, puppy room, isolation room and are currently beginning work on partially enclosing the outdoor kennels,’ said Ms Hart.
The funds from the gala will go primarily towards outfitting these new spaces at the Shelter with stainless steel cages, added Ms Hart.
‘We need cages for these new rooms and want to get the stainless steel variety, which, although expensive, last forever and are more hygienic and easier to clean.’
