Heels walk tall

This weekend Dominos Lady Heels asserted its dominance.

The Lady Heels basketball team took down Silver Bullets 75-49 in the final of the Women’s Cup.

The Cup tournament consisted of an additional two games for the teams involved in the 2009 Cayman Islands Basketball Association national women’s league.

The lopsided-score belied the competitiveness of the match as both teams went back and forth going into the final quarter.

Dominos had a ten point lead by half time and were up by just nine heading into the fourth quarter.

However a key injury to Bullets star guard Scimone Campbell hampered the offense greatly and led to only four points in the quarter.

Dominos took advantage of that misfortune and pushed ahead on the offensive end, scoring 21 points.

Aside from the injury to Campbell, Dominos came on top courtesy of aggressive defense (17 steals, six blocks and 28 turnovers forced) and getting easy points in transition.

Their offense was no slouch as four players would end up in double figures while Bullets managed only one such player.

Benecia Thompson led the Lady Heels with 21 points (including the game’s two lone three-point bombs), 15 rebounds and three steals.

Super centre Dionne Anglin had another big night with 17 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks.

Sarah Kidd had a solid game with 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals while Anna Sangiacomo chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Bullets countered with Donna Hing’s 12 points and six rebounds.
