Sue Greene’s girls’ football programme at the George Hicks playing field every Saturday morning may not be well attended but it is extremely popular amongst the children and parents that attend.
‘The girls programme has been disappointing this year in terms of turn out,’ admitted Greene.
‘We need to work more with parents to get them down here and we’re thinking of organising a bus to bring them down here from all the districts. The biggest problem is transportation on a Saturday morning.
‘So for next season which starts in September we’re looking at having a bus bringing the girls here.
‘The girls who come here absolutely love it. They don’t want us to end on April 25. We do 12 weeks each season. A lot of girls I see improving and developing new relationships and friendships.
‘The mothers day last week didn’t have the support we wanted so next time I think we’ll involve the fathers too.’
