Digicel’s kind to Gaelic scene

Digicel, the main sponsor of the Cayman Islands Gaelic Football Club, have generously given the club a cheque for CI$2,750.

Digicel’s head offices are in Ireland so the link with this quintessential Irish sport is an obvious one.

Digicel Cayman CEO, Victor Corcoran said: ‘Digicel has been involved with Cayman Islands Gaelic Football Club now for over four years and we are very proud of this longstanding association with one of Cayman’s leading multi-cultural sporting competitions. With this sponsorship Digicel continues to demonstrate its commitment to the development of Gaelic football in Cayman.’

The annual men and women’s Digicel League competitions which are the main focus of the CIGFC season have been running since 1998 and are contested on Sunday afternoons at the Rugby Club in South Sound.

The league programme runs from January through to the finals weekend in early June and is enjoyed by participants of different skill level and nationality.

Noel Reilly thanked Digicel for their commitment to the club. He said: ‘As President of the Cayman Islands Gaelic Football Club, I would like on behalf of the club to thank Digicel for their continuing financial support.

‘Their sponsorship enables the club to run on an annual basis our successful Digicel Gaelic Football Leagues at the Cayman Rugby Football Union grounds in South Sound.’

The ladies’ and men’s leagues each comprise four teams and the club has in excess of 120 players from various countries including Ireland, Cayman Islands, Australia, UK, Canada and the USA.’
