Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao confirmed himself as the pound-for-pound king with a devastating two-round knockout of Ricky ‘Hitman’ Hatton on Saturday night.
Although the overwhelming favourite, the Filipino hero was not expected to beat the brawling Brit so easily at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Yet Pacquiao dropped Hatton twice in the first round and found a chilling left hook to end proceedings in the second with one second to go.
The next obvious match for Pacquiao is against Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather who announced his return to the ring over the weekend.
That contest could happen by the end of the year but first Mayweather has to get past tough Mexican lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18.
In the meantime, Pacquiao will return to his homeland to be feted by the adoring millions. Such is his popularity that government had to be suspended because 50 politicians travelled to Vegas for the fight.
