Artisan Metal Works has claimed a gold medal at the annual National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association show, held in Long Beach, California, from 21 to 25 April.
Karoly Szucs and his team were awarded the gold in the art and sculpture division for the turtles they created for the Cayman National Bank roundabout.
Participants in the competition have to submit a picture of their work along with a description. This is then displayed at the convention, where the over 1,000 member firms from twelve countries can vote for their favourite.
Karoly said it was a great honour for him and his team to be recognised by their peers.
‘I would really like to thank Cayman National for presenting me with this opportunity,’ said Karoly. He said he had wanted to create turtles for the longest time, and the commission from Cayman National was really a dream come true.
The turtles were created in weathering steel, which takes on a rusted appearance but is extremely durable. Stainless steel was used for the eyes, in order to maintain an unfading brightness to the eyes.
Artisan Metal Works has won a NOMMA Top Job award every year since their first entry into the competition in 2006, with a tally of awards now standing at three golds and two bronzes.
