Got Dance searches for Cayman’s best dancers

Similar in format to the popular television show So You Think You Can Dance?, Cayman is introducing Got Dance, a local dance competition calling all talented dancers on island to the stage.

Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited recently signed on to sponsor the contest, which will bring together talented dancers of all ages and styles to the Cayman stage this summer.

‘We are honoured and excited to partner with Barnes Dance Academy Limited to bring the first-ever Got Dance competition to Cayman, which promises to attract and reward people of all ages,’ said Butterfield’s Rhonda Serrano.

‘One of Butterfield’s key corporate values is to support and enrich the community in which we live and work through our sponsorship and donation programme, and this is one exciting way we could support the arts.’

Dancers will participate in district auditions, starting Saturday, 6 June, to earn a place to compete in the finals on 20 June for a chance to claim the title of Cayman’s Top Dancer, along with the $1,000 cash prize.

On the final night of eliminations, dancers will perform for local and celebrity judges and will be given a judges’ score. The eliminations will be filmed and re-aired as a broadcast on CITN where the public will be invited to text in their vote for their favourite dancer.

Tickets for the final night go on sale on 8 June.

‘We feel extremely fortunate to have Butterfield on board to bring this creative and fresh approach to dance to the Cayman Islands,’ said Barnes Dance Academy’s Director Susan Barnes Pereira.

‘It is an event that will have far-reaching local impact while having the future potential to attract both regional and international competitors.’

All proceeds from the event will go to the Barnes Dance Academy Performance Competition team and a free summer dance workshop with international instructors.
