The record industry as we know it has only been around for the last 50 years. Like all industries, when consumer taste change either the business changes with it or it fails.
Downloading music and entertainment is here to stay and whether the companies behind them find a way to make a profit off it is yet to be seen.
It does not seem logical for anyone younger than 30 to purchase a music album when they can simply download the album for free. So for this industry I do see the alternate revenue streams such as live performances and music copyrights as the only legitimate way of making money through music. Caymanian musicians have never found the sale of their music as a big source of revenue but more a marketing tool for the live performances and the faster we can get online and put the music out for free, the more exposure you will get.
